NFL × Flamengo, Idea to Production in Seven Days

The Context

Qual Jogo? Os Dois.

American football or futebol. For an NFL × Flamengo collection, that was the question every carioca was already asking — half a joke, half a real loyalty test — and answering it was the brief. Not settling it. Answering it: os dois.

The challenge came attached. Seven days from the first conversation to the camera rolling, with the concept, the casting, the locations and the whole schedule inside that window — the stretch most productions this size spend on pre-production alone. Which meant the idea had to be right on the first pass, because there was no second one.

The Approach

The Real Rio, Not a Set.

With director Roger Castillo and DOP Fernando Duarte, we took the collection out into the city instead of building a version of the city indoors. A rooftop above the hillside. A favela court. Spots anyone from here recognizes on sight. Ipanema at its most unmistakable.

Six faces carrying the pieces, and everyday life moving behind every frame — no cleared streets, no dressed extras, no attempt to tidy Rio into a backdrop. The city stays itself, and the collection has to hold its own inside it.

The finish stays premium and minimal against all of that: high fashion set against real life, the clothes given room while the street keeps moving. That contrast is the whole point, and a studio would have flattened it.

On that schedule it only holds together on home turf. Knowing which rooftop gives you the frame, who to ask for access at a court, how the beach reads at which hour, and how long the move between two points actually takes rather than how long the map claims — that is what lets a day this full stay a day rather than a week.

Somewhere in the middle of it, lunch: proper churrasco, the whole crew around it. Not a detail we would normally put in a case study, except that it is genuinely part of how the day held. Fast productions come apart when people are running on nothing. This one didn’t.

The thing we hadn’t planned for was the pieces stopping traffic. Red and black on Rio streets in the middle of a working day, heads turning at every location, people coming over to ask where they could buy it weeks before the collection launched. When strangers want the product off the model’s back, the campaign is already working.

The Outcome

Both Games, One City.

Seven days from idea to production, and nothing in the finished work to suggest it: two of the most recognizable identities in sport sharing the same streets, the same light, the same six faces. Rooted in Rio rather than staged in it.

And the question gets its answer in the last shot, when everyone comes onto the pitch together. Qual jogo? Os dois.
